Every year, the youth taking part in our flagship initiative, the Creation Program, work together as an ensemble and one-on-one with professionals in the performance arts scene to plan and put on a production over the course of nine weeks. Learn more about the works of past participants that have taken the stage since our humble beginnings in 2007.

Creation Program 2025
The AMY Theatre Creation Program (formally Spring Program) is our flagship activity. In 2025 we offered a nine-week performance creation program for gender-diverse youth and women between 16 and 25 years of age. AMY is a trans and queer positive space, open to all abilities, bodies and experiences. Each participant is paired with a professional artist mentor. Over nine weeks, the participants worked collectively with a team of professional directors to create and devise their own performance pieces, which you will see today.

The Breath Between (2019)
Forced to live under the cover and control of The Dome since the climate catastrophe, queer youth of Tkaronto emerge for the first Pride event in years, only to discover it is not the celebration they had hoped it would be. A small band of them break out of the dystopia and journey into space to explore the meaning of community, connection, and home.
Created by the young artists of The AMY Project 2019 theatre program, The Breath Between is a collection of monologue, poetry, movement and music that explores themes of queer resilience, and dreams of what new worlds we will make together in apocalyptic times.

Aperture (2015)
Who framed your imagination?
Aperture is a collective challenge that puts personal politics under the lens. The ensemble guides the audience as they ask questions and make discoveries about the way women let ourselves – and don’t let ourselves – imagine. What moments and events in our lives shape our imagination, and what moments cause our relationship in our imagination to shift? How does our ability to imagine relate to how we perceive ourselves, society, and our place in society?
Witness a reflection on gender-based themes – body image, beauty standards, sexual orientation, and family structures – that explodes into a confrontation of how we talk about the themes – usually characterized by uncertainty, questions and (distinctly ‘female’) politeness. As they grapple through these subjects, the ensemble seizes the camera, opens the aperture, and re-frames the conversation.

Check Out (2011)
A woman lines up at the return counter to get a refund for ‘the perfect dad’ product; a customer goes shopping for words and discovers that “pressure” and “can’t” are the only ones she seems to be able to afford; a BFF doll stands on a shelf selling herself to passersby.
Courageously exploring themes of isolation, addiction, body image, and the commodification of…well, everything, Check Out chronicles a full day of operations at The More Frills Super Mega Ultimate Extreme Shopping Centre Place. This multi-disciplinary performance piece takes a playful look at the things we value and asks us how much we are willing to pay.
